Logistics General Manager - Job Description
I. Job Summary
The Logistics General Manager (GM) is a senior executive responsible for the entire logistics, supply chain, and transportation operations of the company. This role reports directly to the Managing Director (MD). The GM is charged with providing strategic direction and operational oversight to two critical functional heads: the Regional Manager (RM) and the Chief Transport Officer (CTO). The primary objective is to ensure cost-efficient, high-performance, and on-time delivery across all field operations and transport activities, driving the company's overall business strategy.
II. Key Responsibilities and Controlling Authority
A. Reporting and Strategy (Reporting to the Managing Director - MD)
• Strategic Planning: Develop and articulate long-term and short-term logistics and supply chain strategies in alignment with the company’s overall business goals for approval by the MD.
• Financial and Performance Reporting: Provide the MD with comprehensive monthly and quarterly reports on the division’s Profit & Loss (P&L), budget adherence, expenditure control, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
• Risk Management: Identify critical supply chain risks (e.g., regulatory changes, operational bottlenecks) and present mitigation plans and solutions directly to the MD.
B. Controlling the Regional Manager/Field Manager
• Field Operations Oversight: Direct and ensure the quality of field operations, specifically across regional warehouses, inventory management, and last-mile delivery execution.
• Performance Monitoring: Hold the Regional Manager accountable for monitoring that all regional hubs and field offices achieve defined operational targets and service level agreements (SLAs).
• Customer Satisfaction: Guide the Regional Manager on strategies and actions required to swiftly resolve customer complaints and service issues arising at the regional level.
C. Controlling the Chief Transport Officer (CTO)
• Transport Strategy: Provide direct leadership to the CTO on fleet management, vehicle procurement, route optimization, maintenance schedules, and fuel consumption control.
• Compliance and Safety: Work closely with the CTO to ensure all transport operations strictly adhere to government regulations, road safety standards, vehicle licensing, and documentation requirements.
• Cost Efficiency: Mandate and supervise the CTO to implement cost reduction strategies related to transportation expenses (driver wages, maintenance, fuel) and optimize resource utilization.
III. General Operational Responsibilities
• Technology Integration: Lead the implementation and integration of core logistics technologies, such as Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), Transportation Management Systems (TMS), and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, to enhance operational transparency and efficiency.
• Vendor and Contract Management: Negotiate and finalize contracts with major Logistics Service Providers (LSPs), carriers, and transport contractors to secure favorable terms and reliable services.
• Human Resources: Oversee the development and maintenance of high standards for safety, training, and professional development for all personnel within the logistics and transport division.
